What Wring processes locally

Wring can process content you paste or type into its tools, such as JWTs, JSON, regular expressions, hashes, text diffs, timestamps, colors, UUIDs, cron expressions, QR content, and encoded strings. This content is processed locally on your Mac and is not sent to Wring or a Wring server.

The .env Manager stores values in the macOS Keychain. Depending on your settings, macOS authentication such as Touch ID or your device password may be used before values are revealed.

Local storage

Wring may store app preferences, tool state, recent settings, and non-cloud app data in the local macOS app container or UserDefaults. Secret .env values are stored in the macOS Keychain. These local records are used to make the app work and are not transmitted by Wring.

Permissions and user-controlled features

  • User-selected files: Wring can read or write files you explicitly choose, for example when hashing a file, importing QR content, or exporting data.
  • Clipboard detection: Optional clipboard detection can suggest a tool when copied content looks like a JWT, JSON, hash, or other supported input. You can turn it on or off in the app.
  • Global hotkey: The global shortcut is user-configurable and can be disabled. macOS may require Accessibility permission for global shortcut behavior.
  • Launch at login: Launch at login is optional and only enabled when you choose it.
  • Color picker: The color picker samples a color from the screen using macOS system UI. Wring does not capture or upload screenshots.
  • Load Monitor: System information such as CPU, memory, storage, battery, and process data is read locally for display inside the app.

Website privacy

This website is a static marketing and policy site. Wring does not intentionally use analytics, advertising pixels, tracking cookies, or account systems on this website. Your hosting provider may process standard server logs for security, diagnostics, and delivery of the site.

Apple and App Store purchases

If you download or purchase Wring through the Mac App Store, Apple processes purchase, billing, and App Store account information under Apple's own privacy terms. Wring does not receive your full payment details.

Privacy manifest

Wring includes a PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy manifest in the app bundle. The current manifest declares no collected data and no tracking. It also declares required-reason API usage for app preferences and disk space information used by local app features.

Changes and contact

If Wring's data practices change, this policy will be updated before those changes are reflected in the app. For privacy questions, contact the developer at privacy@thedevbelowstairs.com.
